Abstract
The Pilates method created by the German Joseph Pilates is based on the
application of six principles: center, concentration, control, precision, breath and
fluidity. The basis of Pilates work is to strength of the center of force “Powerhouse”
that is an expression that called the circumference of the trunk bottom (structure
that supports and strengthens the trunk helping to improve posture). There are
four types of postural alignment: the ideal, kyphosis-lordosis, back-flat and sloppy
posture. The proper attitude is observed when the physiological curves in column
and bones of the lower limbs are aligned to support the weight. This study sought
to gather preliminary results about the benefits of using the Pilates method in the
posture alignment. We conducted a prospective clinical study, where five students
were studied, aged between 50 and 66 years, which it was used exclusively for the
Pilates method. For the evaluation of the benefit it was used a simetografo with a
pendulum for verification of the postural alignment and had been described the
real distances in centimeters of points of reference posture, before and after the
intervention of the method, each practitioner in relation to the wire, bob. Based on
the preliminary results we concluded that the program of Pilates has proposed
corrective effect on postural alignment.
